  Order 1 Soil Survey

An Order 1 Soil survey must be completed by a person who is certified as a professional soil scientist by the Association of Ohio Pedologists or ARCPACS and is registered with the Fairfield Department of Health.  The survey must illustrate the location of the required 2.0 acres of usable acreage.  The following items must accompany the Order 1 Soil survey:

  • A statement that the proposed sewage treatment system(s) on the proposed lot(s) will not be within a floodway, 100-year flood plain, or wetland.

  • A statement that the proposed sewage treatment system(s) on the proposed lot(s) will not be within the isolation to a public water system.

  • A statement that the proposed sewage treatment system(s) on the proposed lot(s) will not be within an area where site and soil conditions would prohibit sewage treatment systems and will not require an NPDES permit from Ohio EPA.

  • A scaled drawing showing:

    • The existing and proposed lot lines with dimensions.

    • Designation/location of each soil boring/excavation location.

    • Zoning setbacks (when applicable).

    • All hardscapes and disturbances (existing homes, driveways, filled areas, etc.) on the proposed lot(s).

    • Existing or proposed easements, streams, and other items outlined in FDH Regulation 18-07(4) requiring isolation distances from sewage treatment systems.

    • Natural features on the lot affecting the installation of sewage treatment systems (vegetation, streams, drainage patterns, etc.)

    • Private water systems within 50 feet of the proposed lot(s).

    • Public water systems within 300 feet of the proposed lot(s).

    • Any designated FEMA floodway, 100-year flood plain, or jurisdictional wetland subject to a US Army Corps of Engineer's 404 permit or Ohio EPA 401 vertification.

    • Minimum 2.0 acres of usable area for each proposed lot.

    • Topographic detail with contour lines in two-foot intervals in the 2.0 acres of usable area for each proposed lot.

    • Scale and North arrow.

  • Include an ODH Site and Soil Evaluation Form for the most restrictive site of each soil identified in the 2.0 acres of usable area during the Order 1 Soil Survey.

An Order 1 soil survey must be completed for each proposed lot including the remainder, unless the remainder is currently used for and will remained used only for agricultural purposes (crop fields, etc.)  If a proposed lot or the remainder includes an existing house, only one sewage treatment site must be identified for the replacement and relocation of the existing system.
